So this was a type of bus then?
Not just a bus, it was a double decker bus!
It was a bus that was taking people between Waterloo and Baker Street in London over 100 years ago!
Whyβs it called a βGarden Seat Type Horse Busβ?
The Garden Seat part comes from the fact that the seats on the upper deck were made form slats of wood so they looked a lot like park benches.
The βHorseβ part of the name is because it used to be pulled by a horse! You can see what that looked like in this pictureβ¦
So what happened to the bus after it stopped being a bus?
It stopped being used as a bus in 1911 but in the 1920βs it was used as a riverside home on the banks of the Thames that you could rent for 10 shillings a week. Thatβs the same as 50p now!
It sounds like a super cheap Airbnb!
Where is the bus now?
It now lives at London Transport Museumβs Acton Depot.
